Jesus is the cure for Spiritual Burnout – Abide in Him

We can only burn out spiritually if we are not in the vine… if we are trying to do for God in our own strength. We can’t do things for God.  We must abide in Christ and He will do His Father’s works through us.

Abide in Jesus

Joh 14:10-20  Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? The words that I tell you, I speak not from myself; but the Father who lives in me does his works… (12)  Most certainly I tell you, he who believes in me, the works that I do, he will do also; and he will do greater works than these, because I am going to my Father…  (18)  I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you.  (19)  Yet a little while, and the world will see me no more; but you will see me. Because I live, you will live also. (20)  In that day you will know that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.

The “good” works are an outpouring of God’s grace working in and through us. Our best effort to do good works for God are like filthy rags (Isa 64:6).

Eph 2:4-10 But God, being rich in mercy, for his great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ… 8 for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, that no one would boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared before that we would walk in them.

I want to encourage the children of God to rest (“Just Be”) in Jesus.  Being will beget doing what the Father desires.

Who we are determines what we do. Who I am is determined by my abiding in the Father through Christ the Son.  When I abide in Jesus, I naturally do what He desires and the joy of the Lord is my strength.

If your burden is heavy, then it is not the burden that Jesus wants you to have. But it may be so heavy a burden that it leads you to Him for relief.

Matt 11:28    ”Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

We often want to do for God without first being in God.  Seek first the Kingdom and all else will come.

John 15:4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. 5 I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.

Matt 6:31 Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Psa 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God;  I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

His Spirit is given to us as a down payment of the fullness we will experience when Jesus returns to redeem His children. His Spirit guides and strengthens us in the inner man.

Acts 10: 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

Romans 5:5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

When we are in Christ, He will overflow through us for His glory!  “He” will produce fruit through us.  We will be at peace in all that we do because He will be with us and we will be in Him.

1 Corinthians 4:7 …What do you have that you did not receive?…

Nehemiah 8:10 “…Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.

We Must abide in HIM before we can “Do” HIS work.

Isa 40:29-31  He gives power to the weary; and to him with no vigor; He increases strength.  (30)  Even the young shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall;  (31)  but those who wait on Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Luke 12:11-12 “…Do not worry about how or what you should answer, or what you should say. For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

1Co 3:5-6  Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom you believed, even as the Lord gave to each?  I have planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.

2Co 4:7  But we have this treasure (the Good News of Christ) in earthen vessels, so that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us(We are His vessels… “HE” does His work through us)

Mat 9:36-38  But seeing the crowds, He was moved with compassion on them, because they were tired and scattered like sheep having no shepherd.  (37)  Then He said to His disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few.  (38)  Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest that He will send out laborers into His harvest.

Mat 10:5  Jesus sent out these twelve…

Mat 22:3-14  And he sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they would not come… (10)  So the servants went out into the highways and gathered together as many as they found, both bad and good. And the wedding was filled with reclining guests…  (14)  …many are called, but few chosen.

(Who is chosen? …those who come when they are called.  When they come, they are clothed in the righteousness of Christ.)

Act 13:4  Then these indeed sent out by the Holy Spirit went down to Seleucia…

Joh 8:35-36  And the slave does not abide in the house forever, but the Son abides forever.  (36)  Therefore if the Son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

Joh 15:15  No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master does. But I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.
